Miss Christa
I hold a degree in Music Education (Choral Emphasis) from Ohio University. I have several years experience teaching in private studios, public school, and the Kindermusik classroom. In addition to teaching private piano and voice and Kindermusik, I also accompany for the River Valley High School Pheonix (show choir), accompany Alexander Middle and High School students at Solo and Ensemble competitions and do music activities for the Adena Service Unit of Black Diamond Council Girl Scouts of America. I also occasionally play and/or sing for special events.
I am passionate about teaching children of all developmental stages and abilities to love music and to be able to express themselves through music. Kindermusik has allowed me to accept each child where he is and meet his individual needs in a way that teaching public school did not do. I try very hard to get to know each of my students and their families on a personal level. The better I know your child, the better I can serve him/her. I thoroughly enjoy working with children with developmental delays and challenges and watching the magic that music can work in their lives.
I am happily married to my husband, Greg, and we have two daughters, Sarah and Hannah. Sarah is a flute and oboe player in the Alexander Band program. (www.spartanmusic.com) So, Greg and I are both active with the Band Boosters. Hannah is a recent Kindermusik graduate, having completed Young Child 4 in the spring of 2007. She is now interested in studying piano and possibly dance. Both girls are also athletic with interests in basketball and soccer. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, quilting, reading, singing and sitting on my porch.
As a fellow Kindermusik parent, I have two bits of advice: first, relax ,let go and play in class. You and your child will love it. Second, use the home materials as much as you can. Listen to the CD in the car, dance around the living room, rock before bed. You will be amazed at how much growth and development you will see in your child just through play.
You are taking your 2 week old infant to Kindermusik? Yes, and three years -- and another child later we are so
glad we did. Our firstborn son was 2 weeks old when we met Miss Christa. He slept through the first 3 classes,
but mom and dad sure learned a lot! Kindermusik gave us a way to interact with our newborn in ways that we
never imagined. Through the three years we have been involved with the program, Kindermusik has shown us that
children learn through music, dance, repetition, sign language, story time, art, sensory experiences, instruments,
interaction with other children and their families, and most of all, they learn when they are surrounded by
wonderful people like Miss Christa who care about them and their individual development.
